DAY 6: Agree QUICKLY!

“Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.” - Matthew 5:25,26

Here is the challenge today: Agree QUICKLY with someone who disagrees with you! If it’s not about essential truths of the Christian faith, just get over it. Overlook an offense. Take a small loss to your pride. Maybe even your pocketbook??

Now, we are NOT talking about compromising clear Biblical truth. It’s not a coincidence that this scripture came immediately after the last command to be reconciled to those who have something against us. Is it possible that Jesus said this to illustrate WHY we have broken relationships in the first place?? Is it because we are SLOW to agree and QUICK to disagree??

So, why does Jesus command us to agree quickly with an “adversary”? The word adversary means “opponent”, or one who disagrees with us. Most of the time, the ones we have sharp disagreements with are those that we love the most, our family, friends and loved ones. Sometimes it’s a co worker or acquaintance from church.

So ask, how many times have our relationships with spouses, family, friends and co-workers suffered because we simply wanted to win an argument? I know that personally I have done real damage to my relationships with people in the past because I wanted to be RIGHT more than I wanted to be in RELATIONSHIP. How many nights have we spent in a prison of our own design with family, friends, coworkers or even our spouse due to being disagreeable??

Well, not today. Today you are going to value peace more than you value being RIGHT.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.” - Matthew 5:9

For some of us who can tend to be disagreeable, DOING this scripture today will be VERY difficult. For others... not so much! If you are quick to argue or disagree, your spouse or co-workers today will likely think you’ve had a stroke! If asked, you are simply agreeing quickly... because Jesus told you to!

Tell us how it went in the comments section.
